The watt (symbol: W) is the SI derived unit of power, equal to one joule of energy per second. It measures a rate of energy use or production. In DC circuits, it is equal to EI or voltage times current. In AC circuits, there is an addition term, called the power factor, which is the cosine of the phase difference between the voltage and current.
